Ally & Ian’s Florida Catholic Wedding: Faith, Family & the People Who Show Up

Some weddings are beautiful because of the setting. Others stay with me because of what the day says about the people getting married.

Ally and Ian’s Florida Catholic wedding was definitely the second kind.

From the beginning, faith was not just something added to the ceremony because it was traditional. It was woven through the whole day, through the people they thanked, the way their families showed up for them, and even the advice they heard later that night.

And listening back through everything that was said that day, the same idea kept coming up: these two are surrounded by people who genuinely show up for them.

A Florida Catholic Wedding Built Around Faith

Their ceremony was a beautiful Maronite Catholic wedding ceremony, and one of the things I loved most was the crowning tradition.

The priest described the crowns as something handed down, not earned — a gift of love. That felt like the perfect way to understand the ceremony. There was so much symbolism in it, from the prayers and Scripture to the rings, the crowns, the rosary and the blessings over their marriage.

It was not a quick “say the vows, exchange rings, kiss and go” ceremony.

It had weight to it.

You could feel that Ally and Ian were placing their marriage inside something larger: their faith, their families and a tradition that had existed long before either of them.

A few things that really stayed with me:

  • the crowning ceremony and all the symbolism around it

  • how much Ally and Ian thanked the people who helped shape their faith

  • how personal the speeches became once everyone started telling stories

  • the anniversary dance later in the reception

The Speeches Told Me Even More About Them

Connor has known Ian since sixth grade, and his speech said a lot about the kind of person Ian is.

He talked about Ian being the friend who checks in, makes people laugh when things are hard and simply shows up. My favorite story was from when they were barely teenagers: Ian would invite him over and make him a midnight grilled cheese sandwich just to make sure he had eaten.

That tiny story told me more about Ian than a list of compliments ever could.

Connor also talked about the change he saw when Ally came into Ian’s life — happier, more confident, more focused, and with someone beside him who brought out the best version of him.

Ivana’s speech gave me the other side.

She described Ally as kind, intelligent, affectionate and someone who has never really done anything halfway. She remembered Ally doing handstands across every grass verge she could find when they were younger, simply because that was Ally: if she was doing something, she was going all the way.

That energy feels pretty fitting for marriage.

Family Was Everywhere in This Wedding

Before dinner, Ally and Ian took time to thank their parents and the spiritual guides who had helped bring them to this point.

They talked about their parents as examples of what love and caring for other people should look like. Ally also thanked the people who had helped shape both her own faith and Ian’s, joking that without that guidance she might never have met him because she had been specifically looking for a Catholic man.

That got a laugh, but underneath it was something real: faith was part of how these two found each other.

As a Florida wedding photographer, I love when the details I am documenting actually connect back to who the couple is. With Ally and Ian, the ceremony, family and speeches were all telling the same story.

And Then Came the Best Advice of the Night

Later, during the anniversary dance, every married couple joined them on the floor until only the longest-married couple remained.

They were just a few weeks away from 46 years.

Their advice was simple: communicate, support each other, be honest, keep God in your life, be best friends and do not go to bed angry.

Nothing complicated. Nothing designed for Instagram.

Just nearly 46 years of marriage boiled down to the stuff that actually matters.

And I loved that moment because Ally and Ian had only been married for a few hours.

On one side of the dance floor was a marriage just beginning. On the other was one approaching half a century.

That is the kind of moment I love finding in a wedding day. Not because it is perfectly staged. Because it means something.

Ally and Ian, I hope your marriage gets all of it: the faith, the laughter, the people who show up, the hard days you work through together, and yes, plenty of midnight grilled cheese sandwiches along the way. 🤍
